The past two weeks have been hectic. Eunice, who is our housekeeper/nanny/cleaner/friend/sometimes receptionist, is very sick. At first they didn’t know whats wrong, now they diagnosed her with high blood sugar. She is still in hospital and I can’t wait for her to get better (for her sake and mine!)
In the meanwhile her daughter, Thandeka, helps out.
The other day Thandeka asked me in the car (because she doesn’t get a chance to talk to me at home) – “Mam, WHY are you always running and never walking?”
Hmmmm, made me think for a while. Then I told her “Because I’m always late”
A bit later she asked me again – “Why are you late, is it because you are too slow or do you have too many things to do?”
I couldn’t answer her. Took me a while to figure out that I’m not too slow, I’m not doing too many things, I’m just not planning properly!
Funny how it takes someone you barely know to make you realise what you are doing – or not doing – in life.
If I plan better I will actually be able to have a cup of coffee during my once-in-a-while tea break (which I will now have every day). I will not have to rush Anika to school and keep on nagging her to hurry up if I pack her bag the night before and get her clothes ready for the next day. If I plan my day ahead I will only have to go to town once a day and not 256 times, which will allow me to actually have a chat with Thandeka instead of just running past her (and that means that I will actually have time to show the poor girl – who doesn’t know our house and its cupboards – where to put Anika’s toothbrush so that I don’t have to waste 10min every morning looking for it)
Oh by the way – talking about the toothbrush – yesterday I posted about our toddler-toothbrush challenge. Yesterday afternoon on our way back from Anikas horse riding lesson, I played her a song on Jakkie Louw’s CD about how your teeth will fall out if you eat too many sweets, so that seemed to convince her -at least for now – to brush her teeth again. Don’t know for how long, but for now, at least that is sorted!
Great, so now I just need to find the time to sit down and plan my day…. Yeah right, I need to go, I have a ton of things to do before I pick my Rose-Lolli-Palm up from school 😉
