My baby boy, Reuben, will turn 1 this month… scary stuff! Where has my baby gone? How did 12 months pass so quickly?
Although we did a lot of things during these first months of his life, the two things which stands out most for me which we DIDN’T do, is SLEEP and CHECK MILESTONES!
I think “not reaching milestones on time” are in most cases part of the 85% of things people worry about in life, which never happens!
Maybe it’s because of our journey with Anika (our 5 year old special needs daughter who has Spina Bifida) – maybe I choose not to check milestones so that I can celebrate any achievement as if it’s a miracle (what it actually is in any case…)
But tonight I was curious for the first time. I realised that he will turn 1 this month and I wanted to have a glimpse of what “he’s supposed to do” at this age.
As I read through the “expected” milestones (I don’t know who decides on these in any case) I was overwhelmed with gratefulness, standing in awe of the grace upon his life. I realised that the fact that he can sit, pull himself up against furniture, search for objects, play games, communicate, drink out of a cup – it’s all a gift of grace, and I appreciate every little thing he achieves.
Whether it’s “on time” or not, it’s a miracle, and I choose to celebrate it as one!
