Most of us have our up and down days, but then sometimes, you just get to a point where a bad day turns into a horrible day (for no specific reason) and the brutal honesty – which you so elegantly try to hide on most “ok” days – sticks its head out. And on THOSE days, people who think you have it all together, realise that you – just as them – don’t, you just don’t. NO ONE has it ALL together ALL of the time!
It’s so easy to put on a mask and pretend that everything is fine, but I think that’s a HUGE mistake most of us make. In our case, I would say that we really cope with our situation quite well, but I still get my days where I just want to stand on the roof and shout out “I hate Spina Bifida!!!” – and then just the next day, my awesome 6 year old daughter achieves another “defying the odds” milestone, and then I want to shout “Take That Spina Bifida!” Roller-coaster ride, I tell you!
Today I was sooo proud of Tracy Todd, one of the most inspiring women I know. She is so strong, so successful, so motivating and most of all, so HONEST! She posted a Facebook status update where she said how much she hates her wheelchair. Usually her posts are positive, inspiring, full of laughs, butterflies and bunnies… but today, she showed her true emotions, and it touched me and thousands of other people deeply.
Tracy, thank you for showing us that we can also be honest about our feelings, thank you for showing that you can be strong, inspiring and weak/human at the same time. THANK YOU for ending off your post with the HOPEFUL expectancy of tomorrow, which WILL be a better day again!
Psalm 30:11 – “You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing. You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy”
Lamentations 3:21-23 – “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”
Thank you Lord, that when we open the doors to our hearts, You always turn our mourning into dancing!
Tracy Todd, may your soul dance with joy every morning!
