Most people (sometimes including me, unfortunately) are so busy with their own “stuff”, that they don’t have – or make – time to think about someone else’s situation.
In the past 2 months, we were blessed with so many heartwarming gestures, and I want to share two of them with you.
We are busy searching for a new school for Anika. With her being in a wheelchair, the task is a bit more challenging than usual – especially in our area where flat areas are VERY rare.
We made an appointment with the principal at one of the schools. It’s a school that caters for children from Grade R-12, but they don’t have any other disabled children enrolled there at this stage. When we got there, it just melted my heart when the principal told us that the Grade 10 boys decided (on their own) to build a cement ramp especially for Anika at the entrance of the school, just in case she comes with us for the meeting! When we got there the cement was still wet, but the ramp was there, and to me it was the most beautiful ramp ever…
Just a few weeks after that, I spoke to a good friend of mine, and I asked her how their renovations are going at their house. She told me that they also built a ramp all the way to their front door, for when Anika comes to visit! Now playdates and birthday parties are so much easier to do.
Things like these bring me to tears. Appreciative, thankful tears.
