A sense of belonging is a human need, just like the need for food and shelter. Feeling that you belong is most important in seeing value in life and in coping with intensely painful emotions. Some find belonging in a church, some with friends, in a workplace, some with family etc.
I kind of felt like I lost my sense of belonging a while ago when our first daughter was born with special needs (Spina Bifida), and shortly after that when our second daughter passed away. I still felt a sense of belonging with my husband and within our family, and with some friends, but in other areas I felt a little lost. It was as if some people didn’t know how to cope with our new reality and rather chose to avoid than to face us.
This morning I realised just how much that have changed over the past few years. I’ve made so many new, real friends.
What a great privilege to belong to a Church that feels like family, to have Friendships which resembles the friendship between David and Jonathan, Family that stands by your side – no matter the intensity of the storm.
“To belong” is priceless!!
Isa 43:1 – But now thus says the Lord, He who created you, O Jacob, He who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.
